  5. No fim, a plataforma bloqueia a conta ou some.

So schützt du dich

Fake investment & crypto-trading platforms

Fake trading platforms and 'financial advisers', found via social-media ads or after a chat or romance contact, promise high returns on crypto or stocks. They let you 'see' fake profits on a nice screen and then block withdrawals. Because Switzerland is a wealthy market and a crypto hub (the 'Crypto Valley' in Zug), people here become high-value targets, and it's MROS and FINMA that handle and warn about these schemes.

How the scam works

  1. You click a social-media ad with a celebrity endorsement, or you're introduced to an 'adviser' who recommends a trading platform.
  2. A small first deposit shows fast 'gains' on a convincing but fake dashboard.
  3. You're pushed to invest more, sometimes by installing remote-access software or opening real crypto accounts.
  4. To 'withdraw', you're told you must first pay taxes or fees - more money in, nothing out.
  5. In the end the platform blocks the account or disappears.

Warning signs

  • Guaranteed or unusually high, steady returns with no risk.
  • Pressure to deposit more, or to install remote-access/screen-sharing software.
  • Withdrawals blocked behind new 'fees' or 'taxes'.
  • An adviser found via social media, a dating app or a messaging group; a platform not authorised by FINMA.
A Europol-coordinated action (with Swiss involvement reported) dismantled a crypto investment fraud ring estimated at around EUR 50 million in losses.

How to protect yourself

  • Before you invest, check whether the provider is on FINMA's list of authorised firms / warning list.
  • Never give remote access to your device or share e-banking/2FA codes.
  • Treat 'pay a fee to unlock your withdrawal' as proof of a scam.
  • Be sceptical of any investment introduced via social media or a new online acquaintance.
